Seafood in Hoi An: the beach or the riverside? 8 restaurants you can book

Some links on this page contain advertisements.

Six of the eight restaurants in this article are around An Bang Beach and Cua Dai Beach, roughly 4km from the center of the Old Town, plus a riverside seafood restaurant and a shellfish (ốc) place that opens in the evening. Some let you pick from a live tank and pay by weight, while others take orders dish by dish from a menu — the ordering style differs by restaurant.

This article organizes eight Hoi An seafood restaurants bookable through the reservation service AutoReserve, by map and area. Beyond AutoReserve's listings, we checked each restaurant's official website, travel information sites, Google Maps, and review sites, and noted the source in each listing (as of September 2026).

Seafood priced by weight: what to know before you order

Among the eight restaurants in this article, some let you pick from a live tank and pay by weight, while others take orders dish by dish from a menu.

For weight-priced seafood, ask the unit price and weight first

At restaurants where you pick from the live tank, like ① Nam Gia and ⑥ Được, the seafood you choose is weighed and the price is set by weight (each restaurant's official website). Ask the unit price before ordering, and have the weighed amount shown to you.

NotationMeaning
giá/kgPrice per kilogram
thời giáMarket price. Ask the price before ordering
cânHave it weighed. Ask to see the weight

Cooking methods can be communicated in Vietnamese

Once you've chosen your seafood, you specify a cooking method such as grilling or steaming. These are the same words that appear in the dish names at the restaurants in this article.

VietnameseMeaning
nướngGrilled
nướng mỡ hànhGrilled with scallion oil
hấpSteamed
hấp sảSteamed with lemongrass
rang muốiSalt-fried
bơ tỏiGarlic butter
gỏiSalad (a dish of raw fish or similar tossed with seasoning)

If you can't handle spice, adding “không cay” (not spicy) will get the message across.

What to check before paying the bill

Checking the following points on your bill in advance will help you avoid surprises when paying.

  • Whether the weight and unit price of weight-priced seafood are written on the bill
  • Whether the bill includes dishes or drinks you didn't order
  • Whether cards are accepted. We couldn't confirm payment methods for many restaurants, so bring cash as well

Beach, family groups, live tanks: which restaurant suits which occasion?

  • ④ Hon Restaurant: Has lounge chairs on the beach (Wanderlog)
  • ⑤ Tan Loc Seafood Restaurant: Order something and you can use a beach bed and umbrella (Hoi An Local)

How booking through AutoReserve works

AutoReserve is a service that lets you search for and book restaurants around the world in Japanese. Each restaurant's page shows whether it can be booked instantly or whether it's a "booking on request" restaurant, where AutoReserve contacts the restaurant on your behalf to secure a table.

The difference between an instant booking and a booking on request

MethodHow it worksWhen it's confirmed
Instant bookingFor restaurants connected to AutoReserve, you book instantly by checking available seatsConfirmed the moment you book
Booking on requestFor restaurants that mainly take phone reservations, AutoReserve contacts them on your behalf to check availabilityYou're notified of confirmation by email or in-app notification once the restaurant replies

With a booking on request, it takes time to hear back from the restaurant, and the reservation isn't confirmed until you do.

4 steps from booking to your visit

  1. Open the restaurant on AutoReserve and request a booking with your date, time, and party size
  2. For a booking on request, AutoReserve contacts the restaurant to check availability (not yet confirmed at this point)
  3. You'll receive a "booking confirmed" notice by email or app notification
  4. Show up at the restaurant on your reserved date and time

A reservation isn't always guaranteed

  • A booking may not go through if the restaurant is fully booked, among other reasons
  • Due to relocations or multiple branches, the address listed on AutoReserve may differ from the actual one. Please check the address in your booking confirmation
  • Business hours and closing days may change, so please check the restaurant's page for the latest information

Frequently asked questions

Are Hoi An's seafood restaurants in the Old Town?

All eight restaurants in this article are outside the Old Town. Even Ốc Ken, the closest, is about 1.4km east of the Old Town center, and the other seven are 3.4–4.6km away, around the beaches or along the river. It's convenient to get there from the Old Town by ride-hailing app or taxi.

How much should I budget?

Ốc Ken's shellfish dishes are 50,000–120,000 dong each (Hoi An Memories Land, June 2024), and a 2020 article listed Hon's fried squid at 180,000 dong and whole grilled snapper at 200,000 dong. At restaurants where you choose from the live tank, the price is set by weight, so it varies widely depending on what and how much you pick.

Are there restaurants where you can eat after swimming at the beach?

Phuong's Beach Restaurant on An Bang Beach is an eatery that brings food out to seats on the beach (TripAdvisor). Tan Loc on Cua Dai Beach is described as letting you use a beach bed and umbrella for the day if you order a dish or a drink (Hoi An Local).

How do you order weight-priced seafood from a live tank?

At Nam Gia and Được, you choose seafood from the tank, have it weighed, and then have it cooked your preferred way (each restaurant's official website). Cooking methods are given in Vietnamese, such as "nướng" (grilled) or "hấp" (steamed), and the commonly used terms are summarized in the table in this article.

How do you order at a shellfish (ốc) restaurant?

At Ốc Ken, you order dish by dish, combining a type of shellfish—like spotted babylon or razor clams—with a cooking method such as sautéed with garlic or salt-fried. It opens at 3pm (Mytour), so it also works if you want a light meal in the evening.

Do you need a reservation? What if the address differs from the map?

You can request a reservation at all eight restaurants through AutoReserve. Proxy reservations are only confirmed after the restaurant replies, so wait for that confirmation before heading out. Some restaurants, like Được, have an AutoReserve address written differently from the official website, so check the location using the notes in each listing and "Open in Google Maps" before you go.

Summary

Hoi An's seafood can be sorted by location and seating atmosphere: beachside restaurants in An Bang and Cua Dai, riverside restaurants, and shellfish restaurants. At live-tank restaurants, ask the unit price and weight before ordering.

All eight restaurants featured in this article are listed on AutoReserve. Where a restaurant's address or name needs special attention, we've noted it in that listing.
