The Japanese team drew in the crowd with a composition like a "light concert" precisely matching music and light, and its staging that turned the disadvantage of rain to its favor became a talking point. Italy's long-established Martarello Group answered with a weighty display, making it one of the standout matchups of this festival, which gathers 10 teams from 9 countries.

The venue is along the Han River. The displays take place in the evening, and besides the paid riverside grandstand, you can also enjoy them from the bridges and the opposite bank. The winner's prize is 20,000 dollars, runner-up 10,000, with special awards (most popular, most creative, most promising team) each carrying 5,000 dollars. Centered on the Saturday fireworks, a one- or two-night itinerary is easy to build, touring Ba Na Hills and the nearby Hoi An Old Quarter by day. On fireworks nights, lodging fills up easily, so booking early is reassuring.
