In Dong Thap Province, a fruit-producing region of the Mekong Delta,the first "Dong Thap Fruit Festival 2026"was held for the first time and, over four days,about 500,000 peopleattended. Running June 5-8, the venue was Hung Vuong Square in Dao Thanh Ward. Under the theme "Dong Thap: Land of Sweet Fruit," it buzzed with nine main programs and 12 related events.

Sales during the period reached about 4.5 billion VND (about 28 million yen). Product fairs and live commerce were also rolled out, and live streams on e-commerce platforms reached many followers. June is also the season when fruit-picking in the Mekong hits its peak.

A debut that drew 500,000 people

At the closing ceremony held on the night of June 8 at Hung Vuong Square, the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee reported the results. Even as a first edition, about 500,000 people visited over four days, enjoying fruit tastings, hands-on activities, and shopping. Sales reached about 4.5 billion VND, a strong start for an inaugural event.

"Land of sweet fruit": Dong Thap's underlying strength

Dong Thap Province is a major fruit province with more than 134,000 hectares of orchards and annual output topping 2.5 million tons. Each area has its own specialty, from Cao Lanh mangoes to Nhi Hiep durians and Chau Thanh longan. Growing-area codes have been issued for 3,452 sites covering more than 100,000 hectares, reflecting advances in origin management.
