The scale of the opening ceremony: a 116-meter-wide spectacle with 2,200 participants

The main stage of the opening ceremony was built on a grand scale of 116 meters wide and 40 meters deep, with the LED screen alone reaching 108 meters across. As many as 2,200 staff, artists, dancers, and extras took part, presenting a varied program that ranged from traditional dance to contemporary performances.

"National Tourism Year" is a Vietnamese government initiative that sets a specific province and theme each year to promote tourism, and in 2026 Gia Lai province is the host. The theme, "The Great Forest Touches the Blue Sea," expresses the diversity of Vietnam's nature, where the great forests of the Central Highlands (Gia Lai and Kon Tum) meet the blue sea of the central coast (Binh Dinh and Quy Nhon).

Why Gia Lai province is in the spotlight in 2026

Gia Lai province sits in Vietnam's Central Highlands and is known as a major producer of coffee and pepper. In tourism terms it's still something of a hidden gem, but being chosen for the National Tourism Year means 2026 will see large-scale tourism development and events concentrated there.

  • Coffee farm experience tours (from harvest to roasting)
  • Cultural and traditional-music experiences of ethnic minorities (the Bahnar and Jarai peoples)
  • The grand nature of the highlands (waterfalls, lakes, and plateau scenery)

244 events held over the course of a year

For National Tourism Year 2026, 244 events are planned nationwide throughout the year, centered on Gia Lai province. The lineup spans concerts, cultural festivals, eco-tours, food events, and more. When planning a trip, checking these event schedules will make it all the richer.
