In February 2026, "Fairmont Hanoi," the Vietnam debut of the luxury hotel brand Fairmont, opened in Hanoi's Old Quarter. Within walking distance of Hoan Kiem Lake, with 241 rooms and 8 restaurants and bars, the hotel bills itself as Vietnam's first "six-star heritage hotel."
Vietnam's first six-star heritage hotel
Fairmont Hanoi is located at 10 Tran Nguyen Han Street in the heart of the Old Quarter—a superb location just a few minutes' walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and the Hanoi Opera House.
The architecture was handled by Perkins Eastman and Aston Design. Incorporating Vietnam's traditional lacquer art into its design language, it places a deep red symbolizing the alluvial soil of the Red River, the French colonial Indochine style, and decorative patterns from historic dynasties throughout.

The wellness facility "Circa Spa" boasts 38,000 square feet (about 3,530 m²). It comes fully equipped with a bathhouse, hydrotherapy zone, plunge pool, sauna, and 10 treatment rooms—one of the largest hotel spas in Hanoi.
MICE facilities are extensive too, with over 4,000 m² of event space including a 12,000-square-foot pillarless ballroom. It can host international conferences and weddings.
Industry appraisal and local reactions
General manager Jean-François Blanc says the aim is "to blend Fairmont's more than 100 years of heritage with the culture, character, and daily rhythms unique to Hanoi."
In the hotel industry, the very opening of a large-scale luxury hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter is news. The Old Quarter is an area dense with historic buildings, where large developments face high hurdles. The technical feat of combining a four-story-deep excavation with an eight-story build is also praised.
On travel review sites, expectant voices have gathered: "Having a hotel of this class in the heart of the Old Quarter is groundbreaking," and "The location, where you can stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake and head back to the hotel, is superb."
The impact on Japanese travelers
With an international-brand luxury hotel arriving in Hanoi's Old Quarter, options for Japanese travelers have widened. Until now, lodging in the Old Quarter mostly meant boutique hotels and guesthouses, with five-star-and-above hotels concentrated on the French Quarter side and the West Lake area.
As an opening promotion, guests staying between February and April 2026 received a dining credit of 1 million Vietnamese dong (about 6,000 yen) per night for Accor members.

The opening of Fairmont Hanoi is a move that reshapes the hotel scene in Hanoi's Old Quarter. With an international-brand six-star hotel born in the heart of the historic district, the fixed notion that "staying in the Old Quarter means a budget inn" is becoming a thing of the past. Whether for Luke Nguyen's Vietnamese cuisine or the Circa spa, it's well worth a visit not just to stay but for a day use.
