In March 2026, Marriott International and Sun Group, a major Vietnamese real estate and resort company, strengthened their strategic partnership, agreeing on a plan to open 10 hotels with roughly 4,500 rooms. TTG Asia reported this on March 30, 2026.

The spotlight: two brands making their Vietnam debut
Within the 10-hotel plan, the debuts drawing the most attention are those of W Hotels and Moxy Hotels in Vietnam.
W Hotels
A luxury lifestyle brand popular in Bangkok and Bali. With its blend of music, design, and party culture, it has a following among the young and affluent. Dynamic lobby spaces and dining experiences are its hallmarks, and it has strong reach on Instagram.
Moxy Hotels
A stylish yet affordably priced lifestyle brand. With its "small but smart" concept, it targets the middle ground between backpackers and business travelers.
Phu Quoc Island now and in the future
Phu Quoc's international airport was expanded in 2023, greatly improving access via direct flights. In 2025, more than 8.1 million people visited, of whom 1.8 million came from overseas, and tourism revenue reached about 44 trillion Vietnamese dong.
Adding up the hotels set to open between 2026 and 2030, the plan calls for more than 3,000 rooms across seven properties on Phu Quoc alone.

Three properties in Vung Tau as well
Beyond Phu Quoc, three properties are planned for Vung Tau, a resort destination about two hours' drive from Ho Chi Minh City.
In the Vung Tau Blanca City development area, three brands, Marriott Hotels, Moxy Hotels, and Four Points by Sheraton, will come together. The development targets weekend-getaway demand from Ho Chi Minh City residents, aiming to capture both international and domestic tourists.
Getting to Phu Quoc from Japan
There are currently no direct flights, so the usual route into Phu Quoc is via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
- Haneda/Narita → Hanoi → Phu Quoc(connection of about 1 hour)
- Haneda/Narita → Ho Chi Minh City → Phu Quoc(connection of about 1 hour)
Hon Thom island (where the Moxy/Fairfield properties sit) is reached by cable car from the southern tip of Phu Quoc. You'll need to plan your itinerary to include the travel time from central Phu Quoc.
When planning your trip, it's worth taking advantage of special opening rates for new hotels. Promotional prices are common right after a property opens.
For those looking for Vietnamese souvenirs and gifts, we offer a Vietnamese coffee gift set that's popular on Phu Quoc too.
