Trade publication NNA reported it as the chain's second Southeast Asian market, following its Thailand debut in Bangkok in November 2025. At an affordable 20,000-45,000 dong for one to two pieces per plate, it gives Japanese residents and local families another way to enjoy Japanese-style conveyor belt sushi at accessible prices.

Opening at Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon, the second Southeast Asian country after Thailand

The store is located at Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon in Tan Son Nhi Ward (formerly Tan Phu District), Ho Chi Minh City. It was Aeon's first mall in Vietnam, opening in 2014, and its retail floor space was roughly doubled in 2019. Hama Sushi is a Japan-based conveyor belt sushi chain that has already expanded overseas to Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, and Thailand. This Ho Chi Minh City store marks its second Southeast Asian market, following its first Thailand store in Bangkok in November 2025, where it grew to around four locations within about six months of opening.

Japanese restaurant chains keep expanding into Vietnam, even as competition in the delivery sector intensifies.A moment when China's Meituan entry stirs the market, we covered in a separate article what is happening to Japanese chains, and Hama Sushi's brick-and-mortar opening is one concrete example of it.

20,000-45,000 dong a dish: practical notes on hours and access

Prices run about 20,000–45,000 dong for a plate of one or two pieces. Converting at a rough 170 dong to the yen, that's roughly 120–260 yen (a guide only, since rates fluctuate). Hours are 10:00–22:00 on weekdays and 9:00–22:00 on weekends and holidays, so you can go from morning to night in step with the mall.

Item

Details

Shop

Hama Sushi's first store in Vietnam

Location

Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon (Tan Son Nhi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City)

Opening date

July 30, 2026

Price guide

20,000–45,000 dong for a plate of one or two pieces (roughly 120–260 yen at about 170 dong to the yen)

Hours

Weekdays 10:00-22:00 / weekends and holidays 9:00-22:00

Most conveyor belt sushi chains use touchscreens or dedicated ordering terminals, so customers can order with a few taps even without much Vietnamese or English, making it easy for families to use. Since the Aeon Mall in Tan Son Nhi Ward is a bit removed from the city center (District 1), it's more efficient to visit as part of a shopping or movie trip if you're stopping by while traveling. Crowds are expected right after opening, so shifting your visit to a weekday afternoon should make it easier to get a seat.

Inside the restaurant on day two: 40 groups waiting at 7pm

I went to see it for myself on the second night after the opening.
