The Quay Son River itself forms the border, and half the falls are Vietnam, half China. They grow most powerful inthe rainy season from June to September, when at peak about 1,000 cubic meters of water per second plunge over three tiers of rock with a roar.

It is about 300 meters wide and about 30 meters high. Measured by water volume, it's considered Vietnam's largest waterfall, reaching two to three times the dry-season volume in the rainy season. The roaring spray and the rainbows that arch across it are a spectacle unique to this season.

The rainy season is when it gets serious: a waterfall whose face changes with the season

Ban Gioc Falls changes its appearance greatly with the season. The water volume peaks in the July-to-August rainy season, when the whole falls spread out like a white curtain. In the dry season (October to April), by contrast, the volume settles at about 30 to 40% of the peak, and the skies clear. Late September to October, when water volume, good weather, and golden ripening rice overlap, is the prime photogenic season to aim for.

Right below the falls by bamboo raft

At the foot of the falls, you can experience riding a bamboo raft up close to the mist (a guideline of about 100,000 to 150,000 VND = 600 to 950 yen per raft). There are viewpoints at several heights, and each change in your viewing angle lets you enjoy a different intensity.

Local tours and experiences "KKday"

Booking local tours in Japanese in advance is reassuring

Popular activities can be full if booked same-day.
