Mordor Intelligence reports a 44.7% share on a full-year 2025 basis, and third-party surveys report 40% in Q1 2025 and, in Q4 2025, periods reaching 51.5% on a GMV basis. Grab, meanwhile, hovered around 36 to 43%, with Be at about 6% and other ride-hailing and taxi services splitting the rest. Xanh SM booked over 400 million dollars in revenue in Vietnam in 2024 alone, contributing 240 million dollars to Vingroup.

Background: Vingroup's vertical integration and Hanoi's EV policy

Xanh SM's strength is supported by vertical integration — VinFast (manufacturing) → Xanh SM (ride-hailing) → the charging network in VinHomes areas. In 2023 VinFast supplied 20,000 EVs and 22,000 electric motorbikes to Xanh SM, and there was a period when 82% of its own EV sales went through Xanh SM. Furthermore, Hanoi has put forward a policy to phase in EV conversion of motorbikes and vehicles by 2030, and a trend of demanding a future EV shift from Grab and Be too is visible. Riding this policy tailwind, Xanh SM has secured a position 2–3 years ahead of others as a pure-EV operator.

Xanh SM, Grab, and Be comparison table

Item

Xanh SM

Grab Vietnam

Be

Market share

About 40 to 44.7%

About 36 to 43%

About 6%

Vehicle type

100% EV（VinFast）

Mainly gasoline, EVs on trial

Mainly gasoline

Number in operation

About 20,000 cars + about 80,000 motorbikes

Not disclosed (hundreds of thousands of drivers)

Not disclosed

Fare (motorbike, minimum 2km)

13,200 VND (about 79 yen)

13,500 VND (about 81 yen)

12,787 VND (about 77 yen)

Fare (car, minimum 2km)

30,500 VND (about 183 yen)

29,000 VND (about 174 yen)

Not disclosed (variable)

Fare (car, per km)

11,900 to 14,700 VND (71 to 88 yen)

10,000 VND (60 yen)

Variable

Peak-fare surcharge

None (fixed)

Yes (up to more than double)

Yes

Coverage area

全34省・市＋ラオス・インドネシア

Nationwide + 6 Southeast Asian countries

Centered on major cities

Payment

App, cash, card

App, cash, card

App, cash

Reactions from locals and industry insiders

Xanh SM drivers, in interviews with local papers, say "the uniforms, service manuals, and in-car cleaning standards are on par with a five-star hotel. Penalties for violations are strict." Among Hanoi office workers, voices are spreading on social media like "no gasoline smell, and the driving is gentle. Even on rainy days there's no peak fare, so household budgeting is easy to predict." A Grab Vietnam figure commented, "We'll differentiate with a complex ecosystem including peak fares and food delivery (GrabFood)." From Japan's travel industry comes the analysis that "tourists are flowing to Xanh SM on three points — flat fares, no smell, and gentle service. The guidebook notation of 'Grab is the only choice' needs a full rewrite in the 2026 edition." Even among Japanese residents, "installing both apps and using them by availability and fare" has become standard.

How Japanese tourists' usage changes

First, for airport transfers, the flat-fare Xanh SM gives peace of mind. From Noi Bai Airport to Hanoi's Old Quarter is about 30km and about 30 minutes for 400,000 to 500,000 VND (2,400 to 3,000 yen) as a guide, whereas Grab's peak can be nearly double. Second, for touring attractions, using both apps and choosing whichever fare comes out cheaper has become rational. Third, in the rainy season or late-night peak hours, there are more scenes where Xanh SM is easier to catch. Fourth, Xanh SM has its own three lines — "Green" (premium EV), "Plus" (VF5), and "Bike" (electric motorbike) — so for a family trip of four or more, Green, and for cost-consciousness, Bike, is an efficient combination.

For the surrounding circumstances of urban travel, we also touch on it in articles like the Da Nang food tour and and the spiritual trip.、 Da Nang's summer travel trend How ride-hailing services function in each place is a first step in a local guide.

Ripple effects on the industry and related trends

Xanh SM's rise symbolizes three major currents in Vietnam. First, in Southeast Asia's EV race, alongside Singapore's and Thailand's EV subsidy policies, Vietnam has begun to lead in "actual vehicles on the road." Second, Vingroup's "manufacturing-distribution-service vertical integration" model is forcing a rethink of the Asia strategy of East Asian-type automakers like Toyota and Hyundai. Third, with the user base that had criticized "algorithmic fairness" and "opacity of peak fares" in the ride-hailing market flowing to Xanh SM's flat-rate system, Grab itself is shifting toward advancing algorithmic transparency. For Japan's automotive and tourism industries, Vietnam will become a case study for the coming years as "the first country where EV ride-hailing became mainstream."

Fares and times for major routes (practical information)

Route

Distance

Xanh SM Plus (guide)

Grab Car (guide)

Duration

Noi Bai Airport → Hanoi Old Quarter

About 30 km

400,000 to 500,000 VND (2,400 to 3,000 yen)

320,000 to 700,000 VND (variable)

30 to 45 minutes

Hanoi Old Quarter → West Lake

About 7 km

90,000 to 120,000 VND (540 to 720 yen)

80,000 to 100,000 VND (480 to 600 yen)

20 minutes

Tan Son Nhat Airport → Ben Thanh Market

About 8km

110,000 to 140,000 VND (660 to 840 yen)

100,000 to 150,000 VND (variable)

20 to 35 minutes

District 1, Ho Chi Minh City → Cho Lon district

About 6km

80,000 to 100,000 VND (480 to 600 yen)

70,000 to 120,000 VND (420 to 720 yen)

20 minutes

Da Nang Airport → Hoi An Ancient Town

About 30 km

400,000 to 450,000 VND (2,400 to 2,700 yen)

350,000 to 600,000 VND (variable)

40 minutes

Note: Xanh SM Plus is a 4-seat sedan class; fares are reference values from the second half of 2025 to April 2026. Your next actions are three: (1) before travel, download the Xanh SM app from the App Store / Google Play and complete SMS verification; (2) for airport transfers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat, prioritize Xanh SM Plus; (3) in town, compare with Grab side by side and choose whichever is cheaper. The quiet ride unique to EVs and the peace of mind of fixed fares greatly lift the quality of a tourist's experience.

Sources

AInvest, The High-Stakes EV and Ride-Hailing Play in Southeast Asia

B-Company, Vietnam Ride-Hailing Market Q1 2025: Xanh SM Leads

B-Company, Vietnam Ride-Hailing 2025 Competition

The Investor, Xanh SM lifts capital base above $1 bln

[19,427
22,270,30,53
144
197
299,317
post-2445","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","category-news","category-transport","tag-hanoi","tag-vietnam-sightseeing","tag-hochiminh","tag-sightseeing","purpose-transportation","keyword-trend","location-hanoi","location-ho-chi-minh
["GET
