Using a French baguette while stuffing it with char siu pork, pate, pickled vegetables, herbs, chili, and more, it is a distinctively Vietnamese dish. In 2023 it was even floated as a candidate for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, drawing global attention.

The theme of this 4th festival is "Vietnam's banh mi: a global food value spreading across the world's five continents." More than 150 shops and booths, from traditional banh mi to creative versions, will gather from all over Vietnam, offering a lively food-culture experience from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Festival highlights: a food festival drawing 200,000 people

The main programs are as follows:

Banh mi tasting zoneRegional styles gather in one place, including Ho Chi Minh City-style, Hanoi-style, and Da Nang-style

Banh mi making experienceA hands-on corner where you knead the dough and actually make a banh mi

50-dish vegetarian cuisine demoA demonstration of 50 vegetarian side dishes that pair with banh mi

Souvenir shopsBanh mi condiments, pate, and spices are available to buy as souvenirs

Art stageLive music and performances keep the nights lively too

Visitor numbers over the period are expected to exceed last year's, topping 200,000. If you're traveling in the first half of Golden Week (late April), it is an event you absolutely can't miss.Following the Saigontourist Culinary Festival, which closed in March,Ho Chi Minh City's food events continue.

Recommended spots for banh mi in Ho Chi Minh City

Beyond the festival, there are many famous places to enjoy banh mi around Ho Chi Minh City.
